India's election and computerised balloting

India's 2009 general Election has made us aware of many opportunities and helped India develop systems which can be used other places .
We have seen the problems in United States of America with voting machine and no body can forget 2000 election of George Bush . Still continuing saga of Coleman and Franken senate race reminds us importance of fair and free elections and a strong electoral process.A better computer system can help.
India with its electorate of 720 million 85 % now with photo id Voting cards is putting India on map and at a new place in the electoral discussion.In coming years Census will become better and much easier.Hopefully it will become easier for nation to identify individuals and communal needs .It can also help create a national id card,with better records of birth marriage and death .
The open process and improved use of computers in India is bringing it to the attention of the world.In the process it may help to solve its problems also.More i look at the India Model(which is driven by IT and its uses) I understand how free enterprise driven through IT though being cumbersome at times can provide better solution to the problems.
Out of all the developments of last fifty years we saw that communism failed as economic model. Soviet union did not provide for the masses.Technology proved that free enterprise and people can overcome resource shortage like Japan did it in 1970's.Became effluent by people power(brains and brawn).Now China is presenting a new economic model.Strict family planning and state capitalism has improved china's GDP.Where it has become a role model of financial success for large poor Populations. It also proves how a dedicated group of leaders can help nation's develop.
Going forward the beauty is that India can learn from all these successes and failures and work to its advantage.American model has been having problems in last 20 or so years.I would never write of this nation,with its diverse citizenry and freedoms it will adapt and solve its problems .Not only that this system is the only one which can be hope for the world.Pendulum will swing back and it will rise higher.System may be the power , which is self regulating.
