Obama's beer summit has turned out to be failure.Reason of its failure is the same ,as reason for Obama's comment on the subject,lack of thought and deliberation.



Not enough thought was given to it other than a magnanimous gesture by the president to neutralise the tension.that is all it achieved .Police officer is not a policy person .He can not see how to let go would have made him and police department look better.We do not need to ratchet up the tension .Police jobs are difficult without educated and experienced people complicating the process by becoming juvenile.



Many times it is better to lose the battle to win a war. We all know that president and professor Gates are not the type of people to undermine the police work.Police should also give them a pass when they fail.
By inviting for beer Obama has finally freed himself of the mess he had gotten into.Now if he wants he should comment in his post presidential memoirs.

Henri Gates ,Cambridge police and POTUS

POTUS(president of the united states)interfered and remarked off the cuff about the arrest of a black historian and famous professor of black studies Professor Henri Gates of Harvard University .

He is guilty by default by taking national attention away from the critical issues of the nation to unimportant may be personal issue which touched him .

His choice of words were regrettable but very accurate.Yes it was stupid for police department to arrest a highly placed professor after he identified himself and from his home because he behaved not in the way police expected him to .In 2009 ,American citizens behave badly and may ask policemen to identify themselves in not most polite way and for every other problem a police officer is having with his personal life and job should protect the citizens from being arrested to just make some point that police can . We are not a police state.

Any experienced police officer knows that arresting a thief who stole a loaf of bread and prosecuting to full extent of the law will neither reduce crime or give bread to hungry.It can only make the system overload itself and self destruct because the cost and work load without the wanted effort.

This arrest of Dr Gates is a costly mistake every body involved recognises and would like to forget.Improper comment of police officer were not warranted , when he was asked to comment on presidents statement he said he did not vote for him, which is more a comment on his voting rather than presidents staement.He was asked these questions as he was the arresting officer of Gates.. It was statement not becoming of a police Sargent naturally he may be excused he is not POTUS or Harvard professor.
