Very interesting article in NYT about fishless lakes and the study. These fishless lakes have existed from the time immemorial. Most of these lakes are small and they are not fed by any streams and have no outlets or outlets too steep for fish to climb. Some of these lakes are too acidic to sustain fish.
Interesting thing about these fishless lakes is that, because of absence of fish(predator ) they have supported a diverse family of invertebrates and water fowls.
Fishless lakes are becoming more rarer and Maine is trying to protect them for biodiversity.
Many other scientist have studied the fishless lakes and are trying to protect them for their unique character.
Just bringing the awareness of fishless lakes will protect them .it is also very interesting subject for discussion as most people would associate fishless to toxicity or bad environmental management while these pristine Maine lakes are exactly opposite wonders of nature at its finest.
