I remember in 50's my cousin who was in college had a gramophone

He was the only one i new who had a gramophone in Patiala .he got some English record ,i have no idea how he acquired it .he had to change needle every three songs or so then he got some diamond tipped needle which would last lot longer Though he was not sure of it.There were two things about our friendship i was very young may be 9 or 10 years old. These songs were love songs .He talked about writing BBC radio to request a song where they would announce the name of the requester. My memory is so faded i am not even sure if if he was writing voice of America.
I remember i felt privileged by being his confidant and thought i understood enough English to write poetry myself. What an arrogance of youth.May be that can do and can be attitude we are missing.
The song he had was Honey i miss you or something like that I had sung it for thousand years and can not think the lyrics now.
In my life time have lived in places where i have seen electricity coming for the first time(about age 5)in Attari a small village in India at the border of Pakistan. Now in 2009 i can check anything on web as well i listen to music(Hindi) on you tube.
This was before the time of space travel.A few years after i learned and read H G Wells journey to moon and other science fiction authors.
In my childhood the Russian communist literature was least expensive and easily available till Shyam introduced me to American literature which he received from American embassy by simply requesting.
