For better or worse world has become one market. It is very emotional to complain about as simple a product as a pipe for oil pipe line.I do not know if enough pipes at market rates are available in us from us manufacturers. It sure puts bright light on this product and issues related to it as the story appeared in New York Times.
Most people do not realise that Wall Mart the largest corporation in the world and now most successful retailer in America.,Imports 10 percent of all Chinese imports in the country. How much is that. That amounts about 60 billion dollars.More than than all the imports from India combined. What does India buy from united states for what it sells us( includes all the garments, shoes ,steel pipes and jewelry etc) is software including Microsoft operating systems,Satellites for communications,Air Planes from our airspace enterprises, communication and defense equipment now hopefully nuclear power plants and fuel.
In order for India to buy any of these materials India needs to sell some stuff which will earn them dollars to buy this know how and progress. What India needs to buy is normally in the industries which are still doing well in states as we are competitive in them ,also we have a better pay structure. What we buy from India is in the products which may be very labor intensive or India may have some other advantage.
We should stop bashing India as Total trade with India has not been even 10 percent of trade with china.we forget that Wal Mart has become largest corporations because we have voted without thought of consequences with our dollars.Saving a few cents on unneeded items has become American pass time. Why are not my patriotic friends and family buy American cars .Vote with your dollars so that you all may remain relevant .China has increased trade on the basis of its great trade surplus with US.China has become number one trading partner of India and South Korea surpassing united states. For United states to remain relevant has to remain number one trading partner with our major allies .Trade and technology is our best tool in foreign policy.
