Medicare and medicaid should be the one's to create reservoirs of medical records and provide standardisation .This can be only way so we may be protected from abuse as well as price gauging.Private companies may do it but in the long run our costs are going to be much higher.
Having google instead of library of congress digitise most of the books we have gone from the model of free lending library to selling library.There is no reason that the books which have no copyrights or have unknown copyrights be available for free like from a free lending library and should be available in the format of netbook size computer with fancy graphics and all with capacity to read books also.
The medical records belong to patient and should remain his and her property and may be saved in federal computers and pass the savings.Naturally these computers can be maintained by private companies on contract basis.
