One of the Maharashtra state legislator Abu Asim Azmi was harassed for taking the legislative oath in HINDI the national language.According to the news reports he was even manhandled by other legislators.Marathi is the official language of the state. Most states in India are very protective of their native language.
Mr. Azmi was recently attacked by legislators of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) for taking his oath of office in Hindi.
A press release issued by the party said: “We respect Marathi as the official language, but our fight is to make Hindi the optional language instead of English.”
