Yesterday I went with Mahesh Patel for the last viewing of worldly remains of Swami Saravagatananda ji in Boston.I offered Dogwood (pink flowers plucked from broadway).
I thank Swami Yogatmananda Ji for informing me of his passing on 5/3/09 in the morning. He was a monk i respected from day one i met him .He was wise old man even when i first met him about 20 years ago . Dad also respected him like a father and a reverend Sadhu.
His simplicity and lack of formality made me his admirer from day one. I had gone to ask his assistance in presenting our Indian communities desire of participating in a multi ethnic museum in discussions with other groups of the Rhode Island Historic Preservation Commission .What impressed me was that he asked me that should he wear a western style suit or go in traditional swami clothes .My answer was it would be fine if he went in traditional swami clothes. As i had envisioned him as such.
Other thing i was impressed was that he was very agile man looked much younger than his years and had attitude of a very young person.Yesterday while viewing his body i noticed how peaceful and young he looked even at his age of 97.
His followers who are all over the world will miss his guidance. The loss is also very personal to local Swamis and devotees locally.
It would only be proper to mention that he in his magnanimous way was responsible for having Santosh and Mahendar Paul donate the building on 58 Tell st to INDIA MUSEUM & HERITAGE SOCIETY.We have been trying to use this gift for the benefit of our community for last ten years.I am sure it will become a proud institution in the future.
