CRACKED JAR ( A blog by paulocolelhoblog.com)

CRACKED JAR:very very nice blog posting by master Coelho.

by Paulo Coelho

An Indian legend tells of a man who carried water to his village every day, in two large jars tied to the ends of a wooden pole, which he balanced on his back.
One of the jars was older than the other, and had some small cracks; every time the man covered the distance to his house, half of the water was lost.

For two years, the man made the same journey. The younger jar was always very proud of its performance, safe in the knowledge that it was up to the mission it had been made for, while the other jar was mortified with shame at only fulfilling half of its allotted task, even though it knew that those cracks were the result of many years hard work.

It was so ashamed that one day, while the man got ready to fetch water from the well, it decided to speak to him:
– I want to apologize, but because of the many years of service, you are only able to deliver half of my load, and quench half of the thirst which awaits you at your home.

The man smiled, and said:
– When we return, observe carefully the path.

And so it did. And the jar noticed that, on its side, many flowers and plants grew.
– See how nature is more lovely on your side? – commented the man. – I always knew you were cracked, and decided to make use of this fact. I planted flowers and vegetables, and you have always watered them. I have picked many roses to decorate my house with, I have fed my children with lettuce, cabbage and onions. If you were not as you are, how could I have done that?

“All of us, at some point, grow old and start to acquire other qualities. We can always make the most of each one of these new qualities and obtain a good result.”

p.s. Ah the old jar saw a woman carrying a smaller jar with lot of difficulty and saw how he made it easy for this man to carry water by balancing the load.May be in life as in this story old provide the balance the vigor of youth lacks.

Comments on Farzana-varsey.blogspot.com

Here is what i commented on Farzana's blog criticising Venket and Saramago two Nobel Laureate.

Farzana,
love your attack on nobel's.
They may not be deserving attack for sure they need more exposure by ordinary (may be not so ordinary )writers.
Saramago makes sense, sometimes . These atheist thinkers and writers make more sense when they are discussing spritual and religous issues.
Saul Bellow declared in Ravelstein that all professors( by proxy serious thinkers )are atheist .I add that they are trying to become theist and religion does not allow them to do so .They end up discussing futility of practiced religion and its follies and end up promoting Saul Bellow's views of them.
I can only label you troublemaker and rebel rouse.
Keep on picking on nobel's or almost Nobel's.You will at least be picking on so called powerful. Gandhi will fall in that category and i could write a critic on his biography,i am re reading it these days.Is he not the holiest of holy cows.

BSF women soldiers my comments in indian express

Gandhi would not know what to say to this confident group of women who will help in the struggle for gender equality. These soldiers make us all proud and their children will be officers in the armed forces .Their is a desire that The disparity, a colonial legacy of officer and jawan will be reduced in near future and eventually eliminated .Single structure and continuing education in the armed forces can make it a more effective military.
I salute these pioneers.Strong men, women and families make a strong nation.

My experiments with truth(M K GANDHI)

I am re reading Gandhi's auto biography .It deals with his youth till the time he came back to India. The reason he was able to write about it is that he kept a good dairy of his life during that time.It deals with about first 56 years of his life.It tickled him that he was called Mahatma.

Good part about this biography is that it gives reader a peak into Gandhi's thinking and his development process. It sure is a picture of forming of his mind. His honesty leaves him vulnerable to criticism but i am not sure if he reveals anything which makes him look really bad .All his exposes are intentional and with the right impact. Are they a marketing exercise of the best order.I am thankful he chose to write about his life rather than a manifesto of his life.

His home schooling of his sons comes across arrogant and stubborn to the highest degree. One has to be megalomaniac to think that one could impart best education for a young person without great help from trained teachers and other education experts. He deprived his sons of formal degrees and deprived them opportunity to get the benefit of learning as well rewards of high education for employment.

I like Gandhi's advice to his mentor Gokhle to walk for health.Gandhi considered walking a form of exercise to be undertaken like eating, necessary for life.
