Well, this confirmed atheist wrote one of the most beautiful definitions of God that I have ever come across:
“We gaze with perplexity at the highest part of the spiral of force that governs the Universe.

“We could give it any other name: Abyss, Mystery, Absolute Darkness, Total Light, Matter, Spirit, Supreme Hope, Supreme Despair, Silence.
“But we call it God, because only this name – for some mysterious reason – is capable of making our heart tremble with vigor.
“And let there be no doubt that this trembling is absolutely indispensable for us to be in contact with the basic emotions of the human being”.

Hi Kudrat, hope you are fine. Nice to see you blogging again. I am always looking for great posts.
About GOD the religious people start with that there is god and atheist say their is no God and So both do not agree on basic rules, so both are flawed if discussing god.
We all need god and are comforted by hope of help like at test times, or when some dear one is sick, even at times taking a flight. So God serves its role well. When we see the religious people suffering and innocents suffering, one cannot accept an all powerful god is responsible for all this mess.
Even if one has no belief in God we have to believe in Soul. That is the force which separates a dead person from the living one. We can study it, understand and make the connections. We know very little about the meta physical world.
Keep searching . Ask people who have made informed and thorough search of the subject. some of the great monks have resolved problems in their own way. Some of the solutions to complex problems are much simpler than the problem. Ask one and all how they resolved conflict in mind.
Some elders who may seem simple in their methods have resolved to be so after great enquiry. I have been amazed at the thought that these people have chosen a simpler path like Bhakti as others were tedious and not fulfilling .A great Bhakt enjoys the life of devotion much more than a deep scholar of god and man relations.
I wish you well with this enquiry .It is always good to believe good family traditions. Understand them and your elders way of prayer will open path for you .It should always meet the test of good logic or and sound judgment..

Monolog,Prayers of agnostic
She said
Why don't you write the story of bumbling dreamer who even challenged the gods and did what ever seemed humanly impossible to do only plausible and that also while challenging the Gods.
No wonder Gods did not help. They were mocking him as he was mocking them .He thought that he was equal to them and they were bent on proving he was wrong .
In his challenge to the gods he said I know i am mortal and i defy you .
Gods have problem they could kill him and that even would give him satisfaction that gods could not defy him and in spite of all their powers may be because of its limitations could not keep him alive and that was his revenge on gods and he died making fun of them .Gods were not happy as they saw their defeat in it.
Oh this was an ordinary extraordinary story of a stubborn caricature of a man.
She reminded him how he prayed for well being of the family for hundreds of days alone and with her what was he doing praying to Gods of many hues and descriptions if he did not believe in them.
How he could tell her like gods he was not omnipotent and when he said his prayers in the languages he did not understand and beseeches the gods on behalf of his dear one's he felt that he was doing the only thing he was capable of doing and besides it took away anxiety in his soul.May be prayer is the elixir for lost souls .whisky and wine gave some the peace others could get lost in the worship of the deity and could get high and loose all pain .Is it newer or older intoxicant of the gullible . He was gullible when he was at his wits end .He did not understand why he prayed but he did.Even holy men and others of religious traditions looked at him as man of god and high spirit though he told all that his belief in deity was very subjective. THEY DID NOT BELIEVE.

Self respecting Deity A few points made by an essay in NYT.

One plays God, for example, if one administers a lethal injection to a patient at her own request in order to end her agony, but not if one gives her a largely ineffective analgesic only to mitigate the agony, though knowing that it will kill her as a side effect. But it is hard to believe that any self-respecting deity would be impressed by the distinction. If the first act encroaches on divine prerogatives, the second does as well.
How is that the deity does not mind
we ought to guide and control the effects of our action to the greatest extent we can in order to bring about the morally best, or least bad, outcomes that remain possible

Sanctity of individual as representation of god.
'Iranian cleric urges executing some protesters,"
Walt Whitman the American poet celebrated the follies and divinity in all of us.Reading this AP story where some cleric urged executing some protesters caught my eye.The story also mentioned that in theocratic Iran power of Supreme leader came from god and was without question.He is chosen by select clerics of the country.It is not the democracy of the masses or of the all equal autonomous humans.This statement by an important cleric is matter of concern as they have absolute power of the state.
Karl Marx challenged the divinity and power of the church as the tool of the capitalist. In his name many atrocities have been committed including Gulags of Stalin,cultural revolution and reeducation of china,North Korea and its idolatry,50 year rule of Fidel Castro.Communism if it had any success ,it is questionable because of its intent on total control of thought.Communists
of China are succeeding to deliver the development by adopting state capitalism as the model.As a large capitalist enterprise they are able to take advantage of efficiencies of scale ,prudent central planning.In next thirty years we will know if it will develop into a model where autonomy of individual will be established or not.Will it deliver better services and freedom of and from thought.
Divine absolute power of ruler has been cut down ,last Bastian of such dictum may be in some Islamic majority countries .Largest populated Islamic countries are choosing democracy with all its flaws associated with individual freedom.Examples are Indonesia ,Bangladesh, Pakistan. .Hopefully Iraq and Afghanistan will join this group.
Democracies after 80 or so years while maturing face unusual challenges .We need to be vigilant so that this does not create hardship in the society.
