American civil liberties have been reduced some what,but average person has much higher protections under the law than average Indian enjoys.No preventive detention. There may be exception as internment of Japanis americans during secod world war.Even after 9/11 though process of travel has become cumbersome it is still much more open than India is.If India is able to develop decentralised system as well as America with due respect for human dignity even Today it would be improvement. After 8 years many of the rules are being challenged where people (AMERICANS)have been harassed without sufficient cause. The foreign enemy combatants do not get same protections as americans do .
Looks like KSM will get a civilian trial in New York with all protections of complex american legal system as well as presumption of innocence till proven guilty.
You might have also seen some american muslims in front of New York mosque trampling on american flag as protest against american militarism .As their right to protest.In the words(first hand)of Dr Hussaine india's former ambassador to US he said on hearing us supreme court declaring burning of american national flag as legal form of protest "I admire this nations supreme court for allowing burning of the national flag as a protest but i do not understand it."Inspite of its flaws US continues to be beacon of individual freedom.

WHAT IS IN STORE FOR AFGHANISTAN AND USA
Soviets and Americans left Afganistan and vietnam in humiliation respectively.
While America is studying its options in Afghanistan.They are shrinking and without the help broader international allies and the locals it may become a war without clear end .This type of stalemate we can neither afford nor the people of Afghanistan or Pakistan deserve.
We helped create our monster (Al Qaeda) and militarised the region .We (us,Saudi Arabia and Pakistani intelligence and military dictatorship is responsible for this monster.Now we have to kill it to defend ordinary people from its clutches.
Now we can not fight on behalf of afghan or Pakistanis nor we can let the enemies of humanity plan and carry out terror activity and subjugate ordinary citizens at the same time like some medieval bad movie.
So our choices are limited we need to train Pakistanis and Afghans with help of locals as well Indians and Iranians who have long term relations in the area.Let them defend themselves and help them in this fight.Help them improve education and quality of life in clear identified way so that Al Qaeda and Taliban can not get the credit for it our goal is that they do not succeed in intimidating locals..This development should be outsourced to India (at lower cost) and it will help India to develop capacity .Which is great for a democratic ally.Naturally reducing tension with Iran and using its structures to help in the region will also help us in achieving our goals.
We can not let our contractors bleed our system and our soldiers bleed.

Israeli Ambassador an American no more.
I am not sure if a person holding dual citizenship can represent United States in other nations.Normally Jews or people born in other nations may hold dual citizenship as many countries unilaterally allow their citizens to become American Citizen without loosing their citizenship.
When one becomes citizen of United states one has to take the following oath
I hereby declare, on oath, that I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen; that I will support and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States of America against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I will bear arms on behalf of the United States when required by the law; that I will perform noncombatant service in the Armed Forces of the United States when required by the law; that I will perform work of national importance under civilian direction when required by the law; and that I take this obligation freely without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; so help me God.[1]
Oath of allegiance has a long tradition ,first such recorded oath was taken in may 30th, 1778 at valley forge during the revolutionery war.
Michael Borenstein now Michael B Oren has lived his adult life in Israel and has served in its armed forces .Naturally he associates with israel .He chooses to represent Israel, so he should not hold dual citizenship and every American representing us in other countries should not be alloweed to hold dual citizenship also.

Ford introduces a mini car for Indian Market.
Ford is ramping up its presence in India for the first time with a capacity to manufacture 200,000 cars yearly.It is a very good step for ford as well as India.
I am not sure what agenda India is developing.It should not go into automobile age .It is better to go directly to information technology age.India with compact size can bring development in very short period .It needs to build one third the infrastructure of China with similar benefits .Will they see the oppurtunities and exploit it or sleep through this time again.
A military alliance with NATO and US will free it from excessive defense expenses to counter its beligerant neighbors.

Anti Afghan rhetoric is not good for America.
Lately if you have noticed as US is making a higher commitment to Afghanistan there is class Mostly senator Kerry and friends who have started bad mouthing Afghans and their system and abilities.
We have empowered Karzai and supported him .He has won the election for sure with a better margin than George bush or john Kennedy had done.
Instead of giving support to him we are trying to undermine him without any clear agenda or plan.
Mr Kerry was given highest honors by Pakistan on his visit similar to our medal of freedom .He has shown his sympathy to the Pakistani elite by towing their line on international affairs and in particularly in the us senate.
He should know that India can not progress without having enough energy.It is important that nuclear power generation be part of this mix .Realising this and to reward India for its democracy and nuclear non proliferation George Bush made a deal to allow India to develop nuclear power generation and help its large and exploding population become part of progressive developing world.
There are always thousand reasons not to do something and thousand reasons to do it.
At times in life of nations and people opportunities come which can change the course of world.If India is successful in producing enough electricity in next ten
years it will unleash a human potential of great measure in the history of India and The world.For sure it will allow India to have the greatest progress in 300 years thanks to a republican not much liked president with questionable election George W Bush.
It is important that strong relations be developed with India that is what Afghanistan wants.It will make our relations with India,Afghanistan and others in proper perspective.More we empower Pakistan without the intended results(Economic aid badly needed and not provided) more our other allies become Alienated.
India may not be as powerful today as China but with its democracy and multi ethnic multi religious ,multi cultural society.Which resembles more of USA it will progress to great heights.I am betting on them following democracy and freedom to achieve economic success.I think this is the American Way.

9/11 A thought
9/11 impacted me on a visceral level.Till then i believed in many shades of grey. Now i think that their is something called absolute evil .Some evil can not be reconciled with and that makes me sad for this change in me.
Any body possessing absolute truth can be a tool for absolute evil.
Mutual acceptance and understanding in others belief and view can only help us create peace.
Science has liberated us from lot of dogma ,now is the time that we bring this understanding to higher level.America and India are experiments in this field.China with its state capitalism is challenging this system.Many of the Islamic majority countries are finding hard to make peace with it.The rulers want to keep their advantage.If ordinary people do not progress we will continue to be troubled by the problems.Americas democracy have survived many a crisis before and India is creating institutions and systems (albeit slowly) to create a society to handle problems while we keep human dignity intact.
America has elected Barack Hussein Obama who had a Muslim father and a step father.His christian grand parents raised him.
Does it tell us something about America ,him , his family .Yes for sure and similar stories are in India also.
I do not understand how India has failed to develop relations with America while China and Pakistan has been successful though with different results.China has done great progress in economical terms and has failed in human terms.Pakistan with its kleptocracy , military rule,feudal, tribal system , has been hampered by religious orthodoxy.Country is backward and divided with women and minorities suffering tremendously.
For the regions of south Asia to progress they need at the minimum a free trade zone from middle east to eastern Asia. US can play a role in it .Improved trade will make them interdependent and less likely to start war.
It is important that India and USA become better allies for mutual benefit as well as for the good of mankind.

Parchanda, former Maoist prime minister of Nepal is spreading rumors of India US alliance to use Nepal as staging station for war against China. Maoist as the name implies have sympathies with Maoist form of communism supported by China.All forms of communist in India by working against India's national agenda are making themselves irrelevant.In today's society most electorate are savvy and realise many times when communist come to power they may never leave.Instead of working with in the confines of democratic process they try to circumvent it .
They should remember that china has progressed by trading with US and west .Learning the manufacturing processes and doing development .This is no Maoist China .It is Maoist communism version 2 .They can not apply version 1 and remain relevant.

India's large power projects will improve air quality.
This discussion in reducing emissions to previous labels of 20 year ago or so are not practical for countries like India who have not used the petroleum or coal to any significant level.
If proper thinking was developed they will not increase hydrocarbon use 50 percent more than they are doing now and then start reducing .They may even get lucky .If India is able to produce electricity using nuclear and other renewable sources.All the gasoline and diesel generators will go idle in India and it will reduce use of oil products and clean the air at the same time.
I have said any body who provides India with electric power can claim the status of demigod . Right now if the government is able to generate enough electricity in next five years George Bush and Hillary Clinton will attain that status.
