Language and ideas are wonderful thing .Some times most precise words to express ideas can be NO or YES.

One of Salingers Alma Matter for years wanted to capitalise on his popularity and promote literature in their Pennsylvania Urisinus College.

JDS had lived in dorm for one semester and had been writing for the school paper.In last fifty years "catcher in rye had be required reading in many of high schools in the country and students have sympathised with the bratty Holden Caulfield and his lover.

When college announced a 30000 scholarship in JD's name they got a letter for them not to exploit his name and stop.

As time went by they chose a scholarship "not JD Saliger scholarship " with the prize that the winner will stay in Salingers dorm room with the plaque "Salinger slept here."To win the scholarship a freshman would have to write a literary piece.

New York Times has an obituary of a comic creater Uncle Anant Pai who created "Amar Chitra Katha". A comic book creater and publisher who thought that history has to be made interesting for youth to maintain their interest.Comic was ideal medium to do so .He was one of the earliest comic creaters in India.Prior to that Indian papers used to use only syndicated foreign comics.

By making a picture book of history and other folk and religous tales he made culture aadn history accessible to young of India.India is indebted to him .In a way whole world knows a little more about India from his books.

Breast Feeding controversy,because some can not miss a chance

These are craziest of time .It is no more acceptable that 2 plus 2 is four .It has become and issue who is saying it.Politics in America has become very polarized.Lines are blurred.Even good ideas are not welcome somebody wants to criticise even motherhood and breast milk for the babies.

Sides are so polarized if one side comes in support of breast feeding the children other comes against it on the premise that government wants to control how parents raise their children.I thought that it was governments job to help us raise our future citizens and if breast feeding is good for mothers and children's physical health and mental well being and economical and ecological way to raise the children all would be for it.Not if Michele Obama first lady of the united states is promoting it.

Then their are others who want to sell the fancy breast pumps with tax exempt dollars.Help to poor parents to pay for the needs of children is always respectable.These people are OK for tax breaks for oil companies(i do not think all of them are bad) but are against tax exempt status for breast pumps.I am for the tax break for all new mothers to use as they need for children.

LET US TAKE BREAST FEEDING OUT OF POLITICS .I AM SURE PEOPLE IN CHINA MUST BE LAUGHING AT OUR SILLY POLITICS.

I WONDER WHY MR STEIN WAS NOT OFFERED WATER AND A CHAIR AND UNCONDITIONAL VISA WHEN HE WAS TRUE IN HIS RESPONSE TO THE VISA PERSON.IT JUST PROVES HOW BADLY THEY FAILED WHILE THEY GAVE VISA TO ALL THE 19 TERRORISTS ON 9/11 FLIGHTS.

This movie based on the life of an American woman who traveled and lived a year (if my memory is correct)in India with her Brazilian boy friend.It seems like an adolescent story just happening to a 40 or so years old woman not in seventies but year 2005 or so.

Hinduism and Buddhism do not try to convert people to their faith.Dalai Lama says Hinduism is like older wiser brother of Buddhism .Beauty of Independent India's political can be role model for all the advanced societies.India has had Muslim ,Sikh and Hindu presidents.Current prime minister is Sikh.President is a woman.Most powerful politician is catholic woman born in Italy.While India is 75 percent Hindu.

You go Julia any faith which teaches acceptance and tolerance like they have shown by ballot box in India deserves respect.Finally the great saying of Hindu Sages come to mind

India as haven for medical care for Africa and Middle East

We read the story with glee that Aisha a young girl who chose to run away from Taliban and be a child bride lost Her nose and ears as punishment from the Taliban.She is lucky she did not get killed.Yes she will be in united states and will be treated by some generous hospital and doctors at a great fan fare and cost to some donor or government. Then she will be frustrated and would miss her town and extended family.Will have hard time to choose among all the choices .Some of us find it hard to do even when we have lived here forty years.
Then unless she finds a compatible mate she will choose to go back and again be victim of the Talibanised society in Afghanistan.This great publicity only hurts her chances of recovery and normal life and that's all she is asking for.

A better choice would have been her surgery an hour away in India.Where cultures are similar and even language is easier to learn for an afghan.With prevalence of Indian Movies and millions who had fled to Pakistan and India at different times ,most afghans have familiarity with Indian culture.

I just remember a few years back,must be in early nineties Dad had a friend in Attelboro Barbara who's adult daughter was a missionary of Anand Marga a monastic Hindu missionary order in Kenya(Mombasa).She was running a school in a village .Not unusual for any missionary.She had a woman in her school who was helping in daily operations.This woman is outstanding missionary and has made us all proud of her service.She created small ponds for storing rain water in villages and provided care to many children who born of Parents with AIDS.A Japanese benefactor was helping her to take these orphans.She owned a truck to facilitate the work of the school and the mission.
Back to the Kenyan woman who was her helper .She started loosing her eyesight .I was part of the lions club in Attelboro and i talked with other members about this woman's dilemma.Lions club leadership(our president was class fellow of Missionary) decided to help this Kenyan woman as the need was of sight and that is the charity of the Lions Club.
On further investigation we found out that reason for loss of sight was that this woman had a non malignant tumor in the Brain which was putting pressure on her optical nerves.She started to loose sight quickly and we found out that in Boston Hospitals we could have this operation for 200,000. dollars.We would still have to pay expenses during recovery,transportation etc.Soon this proposal became impossible.
fast forward couple of months Our lions club raised couple of thousand dollars . Barbara's church members gave another two thousand dollars.Air India gave a free ticket to Bombay. A private hospital charged 4000 dollars for the operation and other people took care of her while in India and operation was great success .This woman from Kenya reached back in Kenya after a month and soon after joined her duties at the school. This story i am telling just to share that some times there are out of the box solutions for most serious of the problems.

Oh i know it is summer!! my fly

I know it is summer as while i am reading Maureen Dowd's column in NYT.The column is about her email conversation with a young film writer Sam Wasson(28).They are talking about "Breakfast at Tiffany, Carey Grant and Katherine Hepburn".then she asks about new Sturgeses and Lubitsches?”

I do not know anything about these people .If they came across me i did not recognise their presence.Oh every body has seen Katherine Hepburn and Carey Grant even if one does not know them. Sturgeses and Lubitsches?” they are like characters from obscure Japanese Kabuki Dance only cartoon figures in light and dark.They must be important as these guys were using their names and taking the space in venerable New York Times.Then Ms Dowd sort of owns that space.

.I have a stubborn fly continuously buzzing and landing on my arm.I have tried to swat it without any success,I guess i do not have Obama's fly killing dexterity.He showed last year while being interviewed in the White house.That was first for a president, at least i think so. I am glad this expert(fly) has given up on me and may be found better abode or perch.Do flies perch or they just swarm and land or bomb.

I am writing this at the job my brother has given to me .He knows i use the computer here and does not like it .I feel i am wasting his money and my time .Hope 21 august will be my last day on this Job and then back to figuring out how to figure,write may be a pamphlet and video tape and publish and post.

I am looking out for Next twenty years of mental combat with the masters.Even if i loose it will be a loss to the giants and masters not to some midget minds.

Oh My America !! Wikipedia gets cease and desist letter from F.B.I

Today's New york Times has an article showing the seal of FBI reporting that wikipedia has received a cease and desist letter from FBI lawyers .Letter says that they are improperly using FBI seal in an article about FBI .It also threatens

“Failure to comply may result in further legal action."

The problem, those at Wikipedia say, is that the law cited in the F.B.I.’s letter is largely about keeping people from flashing fake badges or profiting from the use of the seal, and not about posting images on noncommercial Web sites. Many sites, including the online version of the Encyclopedia Britannica, display the seal.

But Wikipedia sent back a politely feisty response, stating that the bureau’s lawyers had misquoted the law. “While we appreciate your desire to revise the statute to reflect your expansive vision of it, the fact is that we must work with the actual language of the statute, not the aspirational version”

Mr Michael Godwin counsel for wikipedia added that we “we are prepared to argue our view in court.” He signed off, “with all appropriate respect.”

Very interesting judgement.This was a case involving an married Arab man befriending a Jewish woman and telling her he was Jewish Bachelor looking for a long term permanent relationship.They agreed to have sex and he left even before she got dressed up .

Later on she found out that he was married and was not a Jew. She brought the charges of sex by lying. He was found guilty and sentenced to 18 months in Jail.This sentence has been given under the law where people tell lies to have sex with a person.Many a women have fallen victim to such shenanigans around the world .In most cases nothing happens and culprit goes free as it is said buyer must have been more aware(the type of sexual partner they were choosing).

In this case it becomes a charged situation as both the parties belong to different faiths who are not at peace.

LAW AS SUCH SEEMS TO HAVE MERIT.CONSENSUAL SEX BETWEEN ADULTS UNDER FALSE PROMISES IS RAPE .HOW MANY LIVES OF YOUNG PROSPECTING STARLETS HAVE BEEN RUINED BY THAT.

State houses of India(Bhavan)

In new Delhi for the comfort of leaders from different states during the British rule they built state houses which they called Bhavans.These are buildings fit for the former rulers(kings)and their hangers on.The beauty of the place is that as the places are maintained by the state governments ,The dining facilities with authentic state foods are very inexpensive.It can be wonderful way to taste the great foods of variety of states from differing regions of India.

There is no way, but to:

1) Increase revenues; i.e increase taxes and hope that employment will also start to rise.

2)Reduce spending. The two biggest expense tickets are

(a)defence at above $700 billion, more than the rest of the world combined. The USA has a little above 5% of the world's population and spends more that 50% of the total world wide spending on defence. The ratio will be better if we compared the size of the GDP of the USA against that of the entire world. But, still, it is horribly lopsided.

(b)health care costs, which are bankrupting Medicare,Medicaid and US companies wherever the employers are paying. It really does not matter who pays; weather it is the Federal Govt., the insuarance companies, the employers. It is a huge cost/tax on the economy.How huge? Take a look:

Healthcare costs the Japanese $ 2,700 per person per year. In the USA it costs $ 5,800 per person per year.Thats a differance of $3,100, per person, per year. Given a population of 300 million(at least),the USA is paying $ 3,100 X 300,000,000 per year, over and above what the Japanese are paying. That amounts to $930,000 million per year.

Solve these two and bang goes your deficit and your national debt.

Metropolitan museum exhibit'Mastering the Art of Chinese Painting: Xie Zhiliu (1910-1997)'

'Mastering the Art of Chinese Painting: Xie Zhiliu (1910-1997)'
exhibits makes the most common precept in learning extremely clear that it is practice Practice practice.When not sure practice more.

This is a unique exhibit which shows Mr Xie Zhiliu practicing and tracing master works of great artists and learning from it.Technique had to be learned and like the saying goes it takes 5000 to 10000 hours to master any subject.For an artist just to learn the basic technic must take several thousand hours.

Other than a quick start from born ability those hours are needed to learn the technic from the masters by copying their works .We are lucky that his practice work is preserved to increase our knowledge.Mr Xie(pronouncd shay) traced masters works for practice and he even traced his own works to create a continuity in his worksand to developmotifs and larger pieces of works.

Xie was unusual in that he saved his drawings. Sarah Shay, his daughter, inherited them and recently gave the collection of more than 250 works to the Met.

Now this exhibit just to remind us mastery is Practice practice and more practice.

Jean-Baptiste Botuli "Master fake philosopher"

Jean-Baptiste Botuli A fictional philosopher created by French author Frederic Pages.

This creation lived from 15 august 1896 to 15 august 1947.He is specialist on Kant.Pages wrote secret sexual life of Kant all quoting this philosopher.What a beautiful hoax.
